The Bretonnians, confident in the walls of their stronghold, recieved a shock when their engineers reported tunneling taking place underground. The tunnels and cellars were too small for Knights to use, and so a force of men at arms was despatched in an attempt to stop the undermining. --signed Jordan de Tyrina, Historian to the court of Louen Leouncour CHAOS ***** Commander Vortal, back in Slaanesh's favour after the sucessful infiltration, had left his Steed of Slaanesh back at camp so he could help supervise the undermining of the main wall of the Bretonnian keep. He watched the Warriors and Marauders at their work, directed by those in his force most skilled in mining and engineering. The lights of his torches flickered ghostily in the dark as the men went about their work. Commander Vortal, Chaos Hero (Chaos Armour, shield) 6 Chaos Warriors (Chaos Armour, Shields, Mus) 8 Chaos Marauders (Flails, Mus) BRETONNIA ********* Lieutenant Yolden, an engineer in his spare time, led the 40 men at arms through the dark tunnels, torches extinguished. Moving in silence, they entered a secret passage under the city until they reached the end, which had fallen in. They started to dig. Hours later, They broke through. Still moving in silence, they approached the light thrown by the torches of the miners. Forming up as well as possible in the half-darkness, Yolden raised his massive axe. "ATTACK!*&()(*^%" Lieutenant Yolden, Hero (Heavy Armour, Double-handed weapon) 20 Men at Arms with Spears (Mus) 2 x 10 Men at Arms with Spears (Mus) [*[Undermine has loads of restricions: 500 points each side, no mounted troops, no units over 10 feet tall, no standards, no shooting, units move up 6" per turn and charge if they touch an enemy unit, -1 to hit in hand-to-hand combat. The most important one is that if you break and flee, you are automatically caught and killed in the darkness. This makes things... dangerous. The player with the most points of troops left at the end wins the battle.]*] Turn 1: Bretonnia ***************** The Bretonnian units moved forward toward their Chaos opponents, unwilling to put themselves within charge range of the chaos troops. Immense ancient pillars littered the battlefield; it was these that the Chaos troops were trying to destroy. Turn 1: Chaos ************* Noticing that the Bretonnian units had spears, Cmdr. Vortal gave orders to move his units into charge range. If they charged, the spears of the Bretonnians would do no good. Turn 2: Bretonnia ***************** The Bretonnians charged. Ltnt. Yolden's unit engaged the Chaos Warriors, while one unit of 10 attacked the Marauders. The other unit of 10 moved to flank the Warriors. 3 Spearmen fell in both units- the unit fighting the marauders held, and the unit fighting the Warriors lost the musician roll-off. Vortal opened a wound in Ltnt. Yolden with his sword- Chaos had the advantage here, because all the Bretonnians needed 5's to hit. Turn 2: Chaos ************* With a calm sweep of his sword, Vortal sliced Yolden's head from his shoulders. The Bretonnians groaned with the sight of their leader dying, and the larger unit of men at arms fled after taking heavy casualties from the Chaos Warriors. The warriors held position. Turn 3: Bretonnia ***************** The undamaged unit of Men at Arms flank-charged the Chaos Warriors, killing one of them and winning the combat as only one was killed in return. The warriors held. The marauders broke their opponents, but didn't pursue. Turn 3: Chaos ************* The marauders wheeled to face the back of the only remaining Men at Arms, who won the combat again. The warriors held once more. Turn 4: Bretonnia ***************** The Men at Arms lost the combat as Vortal's luck returned and 3 of them fell. They held. Turn 4: Chaos ************* The marauders moved closer. Next turn they could charge. More of the Men at Arms were cut down, leaving 3, who (amazingly) still held where they were. Turn 5: Bretonnia ***************** One more Man at Arms fell, and the rest fled into the arms of the Marauders. Chaos had won. RESULT ****** One of the walls would take D6 S10 hits, doing D6 wounds each, at the start of the Final Assault. Not for long, however; the Bretonnians spent their next turn repairing it. Damn their bones.&(^$*%(
