The destruction of the gatehouse was a major blow to the castle. Reinforcements were still days away, and the Bretonnians were gravely outnumbered by the forces of Chaos. Nevertheless, the Baron de Montagne assembled the remaining Grail Knights and prepared to defend his ancestral home. --signed Jordan de Tyrina, Historian to the court of Louen Leouncour CHAOS ***** Kordoch, Chaos Lord of Slaanesh, leading the Knights of the Scourge, gazed toward the castle. Men at arms were feverishly attempting to repair the gate. They must attack soon, if not at all. Raising his hand to the air, he threw a glass globe to the ground; it shattered, releasing a cloud of purple smoke that could be seen from miles away. That was the signal. Joining his Knights, Kordoch galloped down the hill on his steed, the heavy armour weighing down on him. Because of the Bretonnian Lord's known preference for magical equipment, he had taken the time to find a small suprise for him... Lord Kordoch, Chaos Lord of Slaanesh (Heavy Armour, Shield, Steed of Slaanesh, Sword of Destruction) 5 Chaos Knights with Chaos Armour (Std, Mus, Banner of Wrath) Haktor, Sorcerer Lord of Slaanesh (Staff of Lightning, Dispel Scroll, Power Scroll, Jade Amulet) 11 Chaos Warriors (Halberds, Chaos Armour, Std, Mus, Banner of Sorcery, Battering Ram) Telmarios, Battle Standard Bearer of Slaanesh (Chaos Armour, Shield, Iron Hard Skin) 11 Chaos Warriors (Chaos Armour, Shields, Std, Mus, Standard of Shielding, Battering Ram) 22 Chaos Marauders (Flails, Light Armour, Shields, Std, Mus, Siege Tower) BRETONNIA ********* Baron de Montagne was summoned to the battlements by one of his aides. "Look, sir! The fiends approach!" 5 Black Knights on huge, dark steeds were cantering toward the castle, along with a man in mind-bogglingly painted armour who was riding some sort of vile pink daemon. "Grail Knights, Lance formation! Prepare to ride out!" He took his place at the head of the Lance, ready to charge the foul minions of the dark gods as soon as they were in range. A startled shout arose from both sides of the gatehouse. "My lord! They have flanked us! A siege tower, and men with battering rams, are approaching from the sides!" Baron de Montagne, Grail Lord (Armour of Protection, Shield, Warhorse, Lance, unknown other equipment, Virtue of Countercharge) 10 Grail Knights Level 4 Sorceress (Spell Familiar) 3x10 Archers, one unit equiped with Boiling Oil 2x20 Men At Arms with Spears, Light Armour and Shields [*[This is one of the most straightforward scenarios to play. The besieging player gets twice the points of the defender, and must get one unit of more than 4 models off the end of the table to win. Due to an earlier scenario, the gatehouse had been wrecked by a battering ram, which meant that the way to the city was open.]*] Turn 1: Bretonnia ***************** Arrows glanced off the armour of the Chaos Halberdiers, killing one. The siege tower, creaking and groaning, approached- desperately fired arrows bounced off the sides, and none of the marauders within fell. Turn 1: Chaos ************* With a roar, the Chaos army advanced. Haktor, with a languid wave of his hand, blew 6 men from the wall with the Slicing Shards of Slaanesh; the rest tried to hold, but the Allure of Slaanesh gave them a -2 modifier to their test, and they fled. The Banner of Wrath crackled with power, shooting bolt after bolt toward the Bretonnian General. The bolts died in the air as Drain Magic was played by the Sorceress (who lost Curse as a result). Turn 2: Bretonnia ***************** More arrows descended, harming nobody. The fleeing archers rallied. The Sorceress cast Hold Fast, but the subtle twistings of the Slaaneshi Sorcerer Lord Rebounded the spell, summoning the Slicing Shards of Slaanesh once more, shredding her and her familiar as her Dispel attempt failed. Chaos had achieved almost complete magical superiority. Turn 2: Chaos ************* The chaos army moved forward at full speed, apart from the Chaos Knights who, armed with the Banner of Wrath, decided not to tangle with the Grail Knights until they could even the odds. The banner flared, cooking two knights inside their armour. Turn 3: Bretonnia ***************** The Grail Knights advanced into charge range, having decided that combat, even at the wrong end of a Lance, was better than being fried alive by the sorcerous banner of their opponents. Arrows fell, again killing nobody. The archers who had fled took their place once more on the ramparts. Turn 3: Chaos ************* Battering Rams and the Siege Tower crashed into the walls. 2 screaming marauders leapt onto the battlements, crushing archers under their flails. Stunned, the archers fell back. The walls on the opposite side of the castle began to crumble under the assault of the Battering Rams, and the 4 archers manning the cauldron (which should have been removed as they fled, but we forgot) were reduced to 1 by the Lash of Slaanesh. The Chaos Knights crashed into the Grail Knights, killing 3. Kordoch, wielding the Sword of Destruction, clashed with the Bretonnian general, but no wounds were exchanged. The Grail Knights broke and fled, speeding ahead of their pursuers. Another Knight was hurled from his saddle by the Banner of Wrath, and the other bolts cascaded from the Armour of Protection of the Baron. Turn 4: Bretonnia ***************** The Grail Knights rallied, turning back to face their pursuers. More marauders poured onto the battlements, breaking the archers and cutting them down as they leapt to the ground, crashing into a unit of men at arms. The siege tower stood abandoned. The cauldron of Boiling Oil poured its contents over the Halberdiers, reducing them to 5 men and thus making the battering ram inoperable. The other ram shook the tower to it's very foundations. Turn 4: Chaos ************* The chaos knights charged the Grail Knights once more. Kordoch bellowed a challenge, which the Baron de Montagne cowardlily rejected! Sheathing his sword, Kordoch spitted two knights on his Lance, while his minions accounted for one more. There were now only two left. The Baron and Knights fled once more. The marauders broke the Men at Arms, but didn't pursue. The tower which was under attack by a ram shook once more. The last remaining archer, labouring to refill the cauldron, was torn apart by Slaanesh's Slicing Shards. The Banner of Wrath spat fire at the Grail Knights, wiping them out. Turn 5: Bretonnia ***************** The Baron rallied, as did the men at arms. Arrows glanced from the armour of the Chaos Warriors. Cracks began to appear in the tower. Turn 5: Chaos ************* The Chaos Knights charged the Baron for the last time. The lance of a Knight pierced the negated Armour of Protection twice, while the Sword of Destruction glanced off once more. The baron fled, and was pursued. More cracks appeared in the tower. The Banner of Wrath was shouted at as bolt after bolt recoiled from the Baron's armour. The Marauders manouevered, climing down from the battlements- if allowed to move once more, they could leave the board. Turn 6: Bretonnia ***************** In a last desparate attempt for victory, the depleted unit of men at arms flank charged the marauders, but had their heads handed to them. They fled. The Baron rallied. Turn 6: Chaos ************* The marauders left the board, and with that, Chaos won the game. RESULT ****** Chaos had won! * cheer * cheer
